„Upper Deck Mzungu” 6c 100m – West face of Kilabunyo

Upper Deck Mzungu (6c, 100m) is a route established in August 2026 on the West face of Kilabunyo by Paweł Bańczyk, Krzysztof Pałka, and Łukasz Muller. The mountain is in Ndoto mountains, right above the Ngurunit vilage in northern Kenya. The route was led, bolted, and cleaned entirely ground-up over two days. The first free ascent took place on August 13th. The line is fully equipped with 9cm, 10mm Lappas 316L stainless steel expansion bolts and ring hangers at all belay stations.

Approach

The West face of Kilabunyo (mountain with telecommunications relay) is the rock formation closest to Lasamu Camp, right above the vilage. The walk takes approximately 10 minutes heading south. The start of the route is located directly above the local huts. Coordinates: 1.733354, 37.300090.

Descend

Rappelling the route is straightforward. A single 60-meter rope is sufficient to descend pitch by pitch. Using double 60-meter ropes allows for a single rappel from the top anchor directly to the first anchor.
